Beware of black ice and snow on the road!

Beware of black ice and snow on the road!

Driving in bad weather, especially snow or ice is very dangerous. It requires more time and space to brake; the traction of the vehicle decreases and there is poor visibility. It becomes very unpredictable and risky what may happen on the road with other drivers because of the weather.

For that reason, we want to share some safety tips:

  • Reduce your speed. Many drivers do not change their driving habits in snow or ice conditions and continue to drive at the speed limit indicated on traffic signs. This is considered a violation and drivers could receive a ticket. But the worst part is that they are more likely to lose control of the vehicle and get involved in an accident. Avoid the excess of confidence that your years of driving experience give you. Mother nature cannot be stopped.
  • Make curves very cautiously, at a speed that allows you to have control.
  • As for braking. Do not use the Jake Brake when driving on snow. Avoid using the brakes a lot, unless you are very sure that it is safe, otherwise you could lose control of the trailer, especially if it`s empty.
  • Keep a safe distance from the other vehicles, avoid closely following other vehicles. Look at the 4 sides of your truck. Do not drive in groups or follow the backlights of the other vehicles. If you can see their backlights, then you`re too close.
  • Obey your instinct and your experience, if you consider the conditions to become very dangerous, find a safe place (not on the shoulder) and wait until the conditions are safe so you can continue your journey. Do not try to be the hero of the movie.

Please remember that your life is priceless and that no burden or job is more important than you. Remember that your family is waiting for you at home.

We want to take the opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
