As tax season approaches, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) would like to remind taxpayers of being proactive in filing their 2023 federal income tax return.
By taking time to organize documents, filers can simplify the process so they can accurately and quickly file their tax returns for the upcoming tax filing season in 2024.
Truckers are advised to create or access their online account on the https://www.irs.gov/your-account site. New users should have their photo ID ready.
With an Online Account, users can access information to streamline the 2024 filing season, including:
• Find key information from the most recent tax return, including adjusted total income.
• Get account transcripts.
• Sign powers of attorney and authorizations for tax information.
• Receive notices electronically.
• Receive email notifications about new information or account activity.
• Make and view payments.
• View, create, or change payment plans.
• View the amount owed per year.
• Collect, organize, and update tax records.
By organizing tax information, filers can ensure a complete and accurate tax return. It prevents mistakes that can slow down refunds and can also reveal overlooked deductions or tax credits.
Most income is taxable, including unemployment compensation, repayment interest, and income. Taxpayers should gather W-2 forms, wage and tax statements, 1099-MISC forms, miscellaneous information and other income documents before filing their return.
Dont forget to notify the IRS of a change of address, and be sure to inform the Social Security Administration of any legal name change as soon as possible.
Fast refunds with direct deposit: Direct deposit is the fastest and safest way to get a tax refund. Taxpayers can make direct deposits to bank accounts, banking apps, and reloadable debit cards, but will need to provide routing and account information associated with the account.
Remember, if you dont have complete information, visit the IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/). Use the provided tools to get the information you need any time.
