January starts with new rigorous COVID-19 vaccine specifications regarding cross-border traffic of trucks between Canada, Mexico and United States. The trucking industry are fearing that these new requirements could cause border congestion and slow the flow of freight between these 3 countries.
According to the bulletin of U.S. Department of Homeland Security the new requirements expected to take effect from Jan. 22 are:
• Non-U.S. citizens travelers trying to enter the United States through ferry terminals or land points of entry, for nonessential or essential purpose, need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
• This inbound foreign national traveler must present a proof of vaccination.
In the case of Canada, the new requirements expected to take effect from Jan.15 are:
• Travelers, including essential providers like U.S truckers, haven’t have more exemption regarding vaccination. To enter in Canada drivers mut be fully vaccinated.
Mexico’s requirements expected to take effect from Jan. 15 are:
• All inbound non-immigrant foreign national travelers, including U.S drivers, trying to enter Mexico through ferry terminals or land points of entry, for nonessential or essential purpose, need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
• Travelers must present a proof of vaccination.
