During North America´s Brake Safety Week, organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) from August 25 to 31, a total of 16,725 commercial vehicles were inspected across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. According to the results, 87% of the vehicles complied with safety regulations, while 12.8% were placed out of service for brake-related violations.
Key Violations Identified
Among the primary issues:
• 1,355 vehicles had individual brake failures.
• 217 vehicles experienced issues with steering axle brakes.
• 56.6% of out-of-service vehicles failed the 20% defective brake criterion, meaning at least 20% of their brakes were inoperative.
This year’s inspection focused on brake components in both drum and disc brake systems. Inspectors identified 654 brake-related violations, with 382 infractions in powered vehicles and 272 in trailers.
Results in the United States
In the U.S., 14,692 inspections were conducted, uncovering 1,900 violations and resulting in an out-of-service rate of 12.9%.
The next Brake Safety Week is scheduled for August 24–30, 2025, continuing efforts to promote safer roads and more reliable transportation.
