Cummins has launched an ambitious testing program in collaboration with major fleets and fuel providers like Clean Energy. Companies such as Walmart, Amazon, UPS, and JB Hunt have had the opportunity to evaluate the X15N, reporting positive results in both performance and sustainability.
A Game-Changer Powered by Renewable Natural Gas
The Cummins X15N engine, fueled by renewable natural gas (RNG), is designed specifically for Class 8 long-haul trucks. This engine is set to redefine heavy-duty transportation with its unique combination of sustainability and power.
Sustainability and Performance in One Engine
The X15N runs on RNG, a biofuel derived from organic waste, such as livestock manure. Not only is this fuel cleaner than conventional diesel, but it also enables fleets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 300%. This extraordinary figure positions the X15N as a compelling solution for companies aiming to meet stringent environmental regulations.
Despite its sustainability credentials, the X15N doesn´t compromise on power or performance. Drivers who tested the engine highlighted its smooth handling, outperforming its 12-liter predecessor. This makes it a reliable choice for tackling demanding routes and long distances.
Backed by Real-World Testing
JB Hunt, for instance, praised the engine´s efficiency and its contribution to emission reductions after a two-week trial, aligning perfectly with their goal to lower carbon intensity by 2034. Similarly, Ruan Transportation reported significant reductions in greenhouse gas and CO2 emissions, emphasizing the positive impact of RNG on fleet sustainability.
Driving Towards a Greener Future
The X15N offers economic benefits alongside environmental advantages. Running on RNG utilizes an existing fueling infrastructure with over 600 stations across North America, reducing operational costs and simplifying the transition to cleaner fuels.
Cummins plans to commercially launch the X15N in 2025, marking a milestone in the energy transition for heavy-duty transportation. With the X15N, Cummins is set to lead a new era on the roads where sustainability and performance go hand in hand.
