The carrier company J.B Hunt decided to solve a class-action lawsuit involving 11,000 drivers. The plaintiffs reported that the company infringed state’s labor laws by not affording rest and meal breaks in addition to other labor laws, such as not paying them minimum wage.
J.B Hunt, who had their appeal to U.S Supreme Court declined, finally agreed to pay $15 million to solve this decade old lawsuit which includes drivers from California and, if approved, will present $1,363 per plaintiff.
The Western State Trucking Association, together with the American Trucking Associations, has pursued the exemption from the mentioned laws for trucking companies, pleading that they confront the federal law. According to them, these laws could mean opening a door to dubious lawsuits against shipper companies.
