California fines 2 transportation giants for not using DPF

California fines 2 transportation giants for not using DPF

Old Dominion Freight Line and Schneider violated the regulations of California Air Resources Board and will have to pay $225,000 in penalties to EPA. Both businesses are part of the top 10 most important fleet companies in the U.S, with Old Dominion Freight Line being number 10 and Schneider, 8.

The U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that both companies didn´t properly equip their California trucks with the particulate filter required by the state rule. According to the EPA, Schneider operated in California from 2013 to 2016 with about 150 heavy trucks not complying with required DPF systems and failed to check if the 1,200 carriers hired in the state complied with the rule. The company will have to pay a $125,000 fine in addition to investing $350,000 on air filtration projects that would involve local schools near the highways of Los Angeles.

Old Dominion were found to have done the same thing during the same time span. The company operated around 116 diesel trucks in the state that were not complying with required DPF systems and
also failed to check if the 64 carriers hired in the state complied with the rule. They will pay $100,000 in fines and $225,000 on air filtration projects involving schools localized near Rialto.
