Obesity is now a disease on American roads

According to a research study released by the association Trust for America’s Health, the number of obese truckers has increased in the last years.
It’s shocking how obesity has increased in the United States. The doctors will be more committed to this condition from now on because almost a third of the population suffers from obesity. The aid programs, created by the government against obesity, are failing in the United States as the number of obese people has increased, including the truckers. Previous definitions of obesity describe it as an “urgent chronic condition,” “a serious health problem,” “a complex disorder” and a risk factor leading to other conditions such as high cholesterol or heart problems. It affects many truckers, especially concerning the costs of the treatment. Recognizing obesity as a disease will radically change the way specialists will work in the US and highlight the concerns that exists in this country with this issue.
This problem also affects the truckers because they do not have a proper diet and because their workplace does not allow them to develop healthy eating habits. A vast majority of drivers have poor health due to obesity. The research also showed that a high percentage of truckers do not perform any physical activity.
Obesity, a condition related to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and different cancers, represent an annual cost of more than 150,000 million dollars in US, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It´s estimated that this budget will increase to 550.000 million dollars in 20 years, conclusion of a research study of Duke University in North Carolina.
The research recommends that the government develop a national strategy to combat obesity as well as offering aid opportunities to truckers, who are key element of the economy of this country, as well the rest of the people, who are not tied to this work. Through physical activity, promoting healthy choice options and encouraging all drivers to walk around their trucks every time they stop, especially after eating, you can be healthier. Looking to live healthier is the best option, rather than suffering from obesity.
