Greetings! To all carriers that every month read this prestigious magazine and also, I want to thank the countless calls I receive.
Today, I would like to talk about those carriers to whom the permits have been suspended and they are placed “Out of Service”, because are not complying with the DOT rules and therefore, they cannot operate. Then, while fixing the problem they look for help; they call a friend, a brother, etc. in order to borrow from them their permits to continue working. Then they grab a piece of paper, write the number of DOT, place it on the truck and continue working. The Department of Transportation (DOT) is determined to stop this practice.
Every trucker who passes through the scale with the number of DOT glued to the door is taken as a red alert; immediately they realize that this truck belongs to a company that is out of service. Therefore they are submitted to an inspection qualifying as Level 3 for using a borrowed DOT. This will affect the owner who lent his DOT. The Inspector of the scale will put codes in the record of the DOT provided. So when they have the audit, they be asked for the driver and about what happened with the permit, they will want to see the files, also to check what is in the alcohol and drugs system, the log book of that day, and etc. but as the owner won’t be able to provide such information, then he will say “That was no my driver, I only allowed him to use my permit for a few days.”
I know it’s hard to say no to a friend, who works just like you. But, it is best to follow the rules and if you lend your permit ask your friend for the following: the drug test, you should put him on your insurance, the checks must come in your name, notify DMV that now you has another DOT, paint the DOT on their doors, bring the inspection of the truck and trailer, log book, diesel receipts, and finally tell him: “if you my friend accept to give me all of the above with a great pleasure you can use my DOT otherwise if we do not follow what the law requires, I am going to be the one harmed.”
The score is compared with the credit score, if you do not have a good credit you cannot buy anything with DOT is the same, if you do not have a good score, you do not get cargo. If you have doubts or questions about this item call me at: 909.390.3656.
