The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association is requesting the support from professional drivers based in California for the proposal of action against the speed limit differential of the state. At the moment, the Californian law specifies that trucks can circulate up to 55 mph on highways and should stay in the right lane, but light vehicles can go up to 70 mph.
As OOIDA considers this speed differential extremely risky for all drivers, the intention of the association is to approach this problem at the state house in the next upcoming months. In the past, there was a bill that had the objective of decreasing the speed differential between light vehicles and CMVs but never emerged from the Assembly committee.
Now, OOIDA is renovating this action proposal in order to exclude or, at least, decrease the speed limit differential in California. Because they consider that this current speed differential between vehicles contributes to more congested highways, more hostile drivers and, in consequence of this, more accidents
